Happy Motivating Sunday!
Waking up to Lance and Alberto trying to figure out who is better (Alberto) then clicking back to ABC to watch The Open with Watson living in another dimension and Lee Westwood grinning his way to his first Major (yes, I am making a pick for Westwood). All I need now is the annual Ironman television special and I will have enough moto juice at least until tomorrow night.
I have always found my motovation in movement – video, music, live action. I would watch Golf Channel Classics the night before a Future’s event to get my heart pumping the right moto juice. Some of us didn’t have the pleasure of competing in professional sports… didn’t have the pleasure of embarrassing themselves by 4-putting on the final green on local television in Schenectady, didn’t blade ‘it’ out of bunker into the gallery on the 16th par 3 in Lima, didn’t chunk a wedge from 93 yards on a short par 5 in Morgantown… didn’t ‘nut’ a 4 wood on the 18th in the second round of q-school at Mission Hills to 12 feet to 2-putt for birdie in order to make the cut, didn’t snake a birdie-sidehill-slider-backdoor putt in on 18 to make a check to pay rent in Columbus, Ohio, didn’t spin a wedge back into the cup from 112 yards to make eagle to take the lead in Cathedral City, California…
I watch Lance Armstrong trying to find his way through the rest of his life, I watch Tom Watson play the greatest game in the universe near the birthplace of the greatest game in the universe like the seasoned Champion that he is and I watch other professionals in other sports waste their talent and wish that I had another chance…
But you see… when you are a golfer, amateur or professional, you always have another chance to make your mark on the game because golf is about the person you are and how you can overcome your demons over 72 holes better than any other player in the field.
Watch for me. I will make my mark if I hadn’t already… someday I will know.
P.S. Check my prediction for Westwood… Watson is steady as he goes with Westwood in a bunker having to make the shot of his life. Lee walking up 18 with Watson back on the tee waiting for the fairway to clear. I have been there and to be honest I have no idea what will take place in the next 10 minutes…
