Positioning
Positioning is important in anything you do – business, marketing, football, golf, marriage (sometimes), basketball, tennis. Do you think being in the right place at the right time is luck? Or do you think it has a little bit to do with strategy?
A 10 foot birdie putt on 18 to force a playoff doesn’t come without a great approach shot. An advertising campaign for tampons does not make an impact on the Spike channel. Opportunity is nothing without positioning and we need to be in position in order to capitalize on the opportunity.
Opportunity… You will hear this word a lot in business. You will hear this word a lot when it comes to market swings, market gaps and/or market trends. Here is a little side story from my Mother:
She received a call from Indiana University a couple of weeks ago for a poll they were conducting. A few of the questions were the typical data gathering questioning polling. The question that interested her the most was a question about opportunity. The poller (poller? is that a word?) aksed Mother did she believe every one in America who wanted a job could have a job? Mother responded with yes, everyone who wants a job can get one. I agree but I wanted to know what Mother meant by ‘job’. She meant something to make money to support yourself and/or your family. Her words were, ‘you can always rake leaves, pick up cans or work the window at McDonald’s’.
Opportunity… there is always an opportunity you just need to take action in order to take advantage of THE opportunity.
In the wake of 2008’s Wall Street debacle and banking shake up, many are making the move out of the board room and into the coffee house. We are beginning to leverage our relationships that we have worked so hard to build in the era of ‘living WAY out of our means’. Others are realizing what this ‘network’ of relationships is really worth… our netWORK is our real netWORTH (Robert Allen)
Now… that you have noticed that opportunity is everywhere. Which one will you choose…?
Every 7 minutes someone in America will turn 50. The baby boomers are coming! The baby boomers are coming!
I know you have heard it a 1000 times before but the truth is what sells. The baby boomers have made every product, company or service a success, a failure, an icon or a legend. Take Gerber baby food, master-planned retirement communities, American Express, real estate, pharmaceuticals and the list goes on and on. With 76 million people, age 50 to 68, that is a lot of food, clothing, dining out, cars, medicine and you guessed it… homes to be built.
Notice that I added failure in the list as well… The ups and downs of real estate along with the ups and downs of Wall Street. For a concise and visual lesson of how the baby boomers make and break any market, go here: Brilliant Compensation by Tim Sales. Tim’s presentation is very convincing. He teaches us about how he was positioned to build his business and how everyone could be positioned as well. Take notice in the video of the basketball in the garden hose. That’s your trend. That’s your market.
So, we now know that the baby boomers are the biggest and best market. What do we sell them?
Retirement plans?
Annuities?
Real Estate?
Bonds?
C.D.’s?
Let me make this one easy for you… a very decidedly and loud: HELL NO! Retirement plans – as they pertain to risky stocks and even bonds – are way passed their peak trend. Why do you think Wall Street took a dive? The boomers are starting to spend their money! It just sucks that the value of their money is decreasing at the same time they need it. Anything that is tied to the stock market is like kryptonite to Superman. Stay away from that speculative stuff. Always go with a guarantee – annuities, life insurance, c.d.’s.
Here is my recommendation for EVERYONE! The best thing that I have seen in a long time is using the Infinite Banking Concept. Take a look from R. Nelson Nash www.InfiniteBanking.org. (some of you that are reading this know that I personally and professionally endorse Infinite Banking for everyone who want financial independence).

What is the alternative to financial products? The answer is simple… health and wellness. Fighting off the effects of aging is something we all do on a daily basis. I use moisturizer, sunscreen, exfoliating scrub in the shower and I take supplements on a daily basis, USANA Healthpak everyday.

We are in a time of uncertainty with brave faces. Some of the most influential and successful businesses and individuals came out of the depths of the most tragic times in U.S. history. This time in our history is not a sign of the ‘markets’ resetting, adjusting or correcting themselves; this time in our history is a RETURN TO REALITY.
Are you in a position to take advantage of the opportunity that is upon us?
